Our God is Mighty to Save

Hey…!! Welcome to post 7 of Voice Of Jesus ! May the Spirit of God speak to you as you read this devotion. I believe it encourages you like it did to me. This one came to me just when I needed it 🙂

Psalm 18 – In this Psalm David gives a figurative explanation on how God had responded to his cry in distress. Please read below the selective references from this Psalm that gives a clear depiction.

V6 –  In my distress I called to the Lord;
     I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
     my cry came before him, into his ears.

V9-  He parted the heavens and came down;
    dark clouds were under his feet.

V14- He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy,
    with great bolts of lightning he routed them.

V16 – He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
    he drew me out of deep waters.
V 17 – He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
    from my foes, who were too strong for me

Does it literally mean that God parted the heaven and came down, shot his arrows and scattered the enemies and reached down to take hold of him ? Certainly not. But that is how David felt that his prayer was answered. He felt that it was God’s eternal power that fought the battle and not mere human strength.

Our cry for help is never unnoticed by God. We are knitted to Him in Spirit and He is so close to us that our cry is heard by Him faster than the blink of an eye.

Upon hearing our cry He does not only give us victory but He also comes to fight for us. He does not only fights for us but He fights through us. He does not only fight through us but He lifts us up from the depths of our troubles and takes us in His arms .

But wait, take a moment and read those verses again. Is it not analogous to what Jesus did to us. By foreknowing that the world would cry out in distress Jesus came down from heaven to earth. Just like how God gave victory to David by scattering His enemies so did Jesus gave us victory by defeating the enemy. Just like how God reached down to David so did Jesus reach out his hands to each one of us to lift us out of our sins and set us free from the trap of the enemy. Indeed He saved us for eternity.

How more vibrantly could the eternal power of God be revealed. That is when I was encouraged. Our God who is mighty to save us for eternity is also mighty to save us from the battles we face in this journey of life. How blessed are we when we rely on God for help. Victory is ours already. Truly our God is a mighty Saviour !

Let’s take a minute and acknowledge that He is our saviour and He deserves to hold the first place in our hearts. Let us pray .

Heavenly Father, thank you for this day. Thank you, because your mighty hands have saved me and brought me out of deep waters and set me free from the weight of my sin. Lord, I will remember all your good works in my life and rejoice in your love. Truly Lord you are mighty to save.

In Jesus’ name, amen !!

  1. Even while when I at times read Psalm 18 I did not go deep into it. But really your blog has made the sound using that chapter. Really it builds so much of confidence in God. God bless you. Eagerly waiting for your next blog!😊
